Rayman 3D

An army of Robot Pirates has invaded Rayman’s world and is enslaving its inhabitants. Rayman has been captured and needs to regain his powers and escape the prison ship to save his world.

If you think you’ve heard this one before, it’s because you probably have. Yup, you guessed it. This is Rayman 2: The Great Escape all over again.

Gameplay

Rayman 3D is a port of the Dreamcast version of Rayman 2 and the gameplay is still the same. You can control Rayman by using the circle pad to move around, Y to shoot balls of energy from your fists, B to jump, and B again to activate your helicopter hair. For the most part, these controls work very well.

Swimming, though, takes a little time to get used to. Unlike most 3D platformers, you use X to go toward the surface, A to dive deeper , and the circle pad to move from side to side. The camera is another issue which was common about 12 years ago when Rayman 2 was first released.

There is a good variety in the 21 levels. Most of them are pretty lengthy. Some require sliding down steep slopes, while others require riding on rockets and other strange ways to get from “Point A to Point B”. The only thing unique to Rayman 3D is the added 3D effect and while great at times, it is too inconsistent to justify another release.

Graphics and Sound

Compared to other 3DS games, Rayman 3D has sub-par graphics. The look was not given an upgrade from the Dreamcast version and it certainly shows. Many images like plants and clouds are 2D and there are too many polygons that should have been smoothed out over time.

I found the music to be quite good. It makes good use of instruments like acoustic and electric guitars and there were plenty of memorable and unique tunes. Unique to games other than ports of Rayman 2, of course.

Even the music had problems, though. There were times when the music would inexplicably stop and not restart until you entered another area in the level. This wouldn’t happen often, but it was still annoying.

I thought the voices of the characters were done well. One complaint that some people may have is that the game lacks the voice acting found in the PlayStation 1 and 2 versions. I generally prefer characters speaking gibberish, but that will vary from person to person.

Presentation

The story is more interesting than most other 3D platformers. In this game, you have to fight off Robot Pirates from space who have invaded your world and have enslaved most of the population. I’ll take that over saving a princess for a living.

The game gives you periodic updates on the story through cut scenes on the prison ship. These cut scenes show you game’s main villain, Admiral Razorbeard, as well as the number of slaves aboard. Most cut scenes were well-executed except for when the 3D is turned on. Ghosting, or seeing more than one of an image, is a big issue in this game.

Although the characters are strange, I thought they were relatable and very likable. Some dialogue could have been done better, but the game still has its humorous moments.

Score

Gameplay: 7.0

Graphics: 4.5

Sound: 7.0

Presentation: 6.5

                Overall: 6.8 (not an average)

Rayman 2 was and still is one of my favorite games, but after about ten ports, it just feels old. If you have never played Rayman 2 before, I would recommend at least renting it. If you have played Rayman 2, you should probably pass this one up.

Resident Evil

Its official Resident Evil 6 has got a release date. November 20, 2012 for Xbox 360 and PS3

sadly as usual PC version like almost all game releases will be delayed and a date hasn’t been set in stone for it.

People who have played Resident Evil game will know the transformation the genre has gone through over the decades from the humble start as Bio hazard for the Sony Playstation to multiplatform game from just the 2 dimensional to 3D for the Nintendo 3DS to the successful movies which have been released.

Since a demo for 6 isn’t available just yet I will be talking about Resident Evil in general from the original Resident evil aka bio hazard to Resident Evil 5, games which I have enjoyed over the years and have had hours of entertainment from.

Let’s get started on this

For anyone that hasn’t played or heard of Resident evil which is pretty hard as this game has been plastered all over the place thanks to the following reasons.

Main Characters

Albert Wesker
Resident Evil (1996)

Chris Redfield
Resident Evil (1996)

Claire Redfield
Resident Evil 2 (1998)

Jill Valentine
Resident Evil (1996)

Leon S. Kennedy
Resident Evil 2 (1998)

Rebecca Chambers
Resident Evil (1996)

  1. Most successful game since 1996
  2. 3 Movies have been launched with 4th in the works
  3. Made headlines over Racism since game was in Africa and didn’t have enough white people (I joke it was because some people found making too many black people zombies was racist)

So if you have been living under a rock here is the history of Resident Evil.

Resident evil was first launched in Japan under the name of Bio Hazard and based on a fictional bio weapons company called Umbrella Cooperation which develops as you guessed it bio engineered weaponry.

This company is global and has bases and plants across the world.

In the First game we see a group of Stars take shelter in a abandoned mansion

The original game is based in Racoon city where Umbrella are working on a new Virus called the T-Virus which mutates the human body into a zombie state and can reanimate the dead also into flesh eating zombies.

The virus Leaks out and starts to infect the citizens of Racoon City forcing the Company to seal off the city completely from the outside world.

Now the fight for survival begins and the rush to find out who is responsible for the outbreak.

Throughout the Resident evil games you get to explore so much and so many places,
from the Mansions to the City of Racoon City to the depths of Africa.

one thing for me that I enjoyed about the series was upgrading weapons and picking up ammo parts and being able to customise them to my needs. (one thing I miss in later release of Resident Evil games which was being able to pick up Ammunition parts and build them)

Resident Evil has never been a game where you walk in and shoot up group of flesh eating zombies as they try and tear your flesh from your body, the game is also about navigating the surroundings and using Clues and answers to get from one destination to another by unlocking entrances.

This gave the extra piece in my opinion as it meant nothing was just given to you on silver platter but something you had to do your selves and earn.

But I will be honest, as I do feel Resident Evil as great game as it was due to reasons I will share in a moment did lack the challenge that the predecessors of

The reason I say this is because the Puzzles were too easy and almost all secrets were in most cases in plain sight.

So I do feel they have gone to casual on this area to appeal to the casual gamers, but in doing so Capcom did lose apart of Resident Evil which made it great in my eyes.

But even so the game was worth it as it did bring in new Features to the genre

Online Multiplayer
Co-op Online Multiplayer
and Extra maps and missions

As much as the whole multiplayer thing is overrated these days as more and more game producers try and tie in the aspect of people killing each other online to extend the shelf life of the game that bit extra.

I feel that there was a good balance in Resident Evil as the Maps and Game modes are great

Adding the ability to do Co-op was a great feature which meant allowing people to connect with other resident evil gamers to go around and play the game on harder settings, reason I say this is because AI on high difficulty isn’t so great.

The extra Maps were a bonus as it allowed you to replay critical parts in the game and replay parts from the back story of Resident evil (even the puzzles were better than the main game)

At the end of the Resident Evil Has been around well over a decade and with the times it has adapted well to the new surroundings technology and even in some cases Politically correct.

I am looking forward to playing the Demo and in time getting my Hands on Resident Evil 6 to write a better and more in depth review of the game.

See how the game has changed in the last few years and how Capcom have changed it to the better or worse.

The Return of The Classics

In the next Few Months we can see titles from the past brought back to life in HD quality
up scaled using the latest software and computers to give that extra bit of oomph.

So far we have

Metal Gear Solid HD collection
Kingdom Hearts HD collection
Jak and Daxter HD collection
Devil may cry HD collection

and much more

In my opinion This is great as the originals aren’t compatible with current systems by porting them over to the latest generation of consoles

as older classic games are revamped and up scaled in graphics it will give the ability to play older games of latest releases, gamers can get a sense of feeling of the game and its history then having only the option to play the current game and then judging the game from that release.

at the end of the day old school games in most cases have more depth, Character.
and that’s something I miss in most games which are released in this day and age.

maybe with the rise of the older games, game developers will return to their roots and produce games which enticed and made gamers keep on coming back for more.

This will also revive most companies by giving them extra revenue from game sales increasing the chances of them producing more and better games.

I Look forward to peoples thoughts on this (Click here for forum Link)

Ace Combat Assault Horizon

Ace Combat Assault Horizon

If anyone has played the Ace combat series you will know it’s been around for decades and is one of the pioneers when it comes to flight simulation and flight combat.

First released in 1992 as Air Combat as an arcade game, this was then re-released as Ace combat for the playstation console.

Ace combat like most other games does not carry on the same storyline for each sequel released but new story and environment is created for new games which are produced.

This is cool, keeps things fresh.

As the years have passed Namco have changed the game and its mechanics when it comes to how the user interacts with the environment that is provided.

Ace Combat does come with a wide range of planes to choose from which can be unlocked as you progress though the game or download from the market place.

Now the Review on Ace Combat Assault Horizon

It has been over four years since Fires of Liberation and you have taken to the skies to liberate Emmeria from the forces of Estovakia.

Now you are back in your Pilot seat and heading to Africa to take on Insurgents.

Bare in mind this was only a demo so it does not reflect on the whole game and I will be writing a full review after I have played the game shortly after release.

My Experience of the game so far and what I have witnessed at Eurogamers at the Namco booth was nice, this game has potential.

The new Dog Fighting mode is sweet as it allows you to go up close and personal as you chase down the enemies and shoot them down.

It’s much easier to use your cannons on the enemy planes which for me was great and big plus.
normally you would have to judge where you bullets are going to hit but with dog fighting you are up close and personal as you use your after burners and skills at controlling your aircraft to stick to the backsides of enemy planes.

If this was good in campaign I can safely say in Multiplayer when you are taking on someone else who isn’t AI the Dog fighting will get interesting as you both try and avoid each and take them out of the skies.

In Assault Horizon you have also got the option to fly attack helicopters which is a great plus as it gives you that extra choice of type of aircraft to fly in the game.
This does change how you engage targets as unlike the conventional aircraft where you are always moving; with the attack helicopters you can remain stationary while engaging hostile forces.

The Graphics have improved and the detailing on the beautiful planes is great.
So while you fly these beasts of the sky you can admire the nice work that has gone into rendering and graphics of the planes.

Before I had played this game I had already pre-ordered it, mostly due to my like of the game and experience from Ace Combat in the past and I would recommend it to anyone to play.

Reasons why you should get this Game

1. Choice of Different Types of Aircraft ranging from Jets to Helicopters
2. The newly added Dog Fighting feature
3. Graphics are much more Crisp
4. Feel of Handling the planes vastly improved.

Nintendo 3DS Handheld Console

Nintendo 3Ds
Finally got to try out the latest gadget to soon hit the markets from Nintendo.
The anticipated first ever Hand held three-dimensional hand held console to allow gamers to play games in full 3D, now Nintendo haven’t just stopped at the gaming but have also incorporated two cameras on the beast of gadget allowing users to take full 3D images.
Here is some basic information about the console its self.

WEIGHT:  230 grams

DIMENSIONS: 130 x 74 x 20 mil.

SCREEN RESOLUTION: Top screen is 800 x 240 pixels divided by two for both eyes with secondary
touch screen being 320 x 240 pixels.

Nintendo 3Ds backward compatible: Yes it can play older games and is backward compatible and can play all games from the DS range, so don’t worry about having to throw away your old cartridges or having to keep your old DS.

CAMERA’s: One facing the player, and two located on Back of the console for 3D images.

With the specs out the way let’s get to the main review

Firstly I will be honest, when I heard that Nintendo have made a 3D hand held console which you don’t need any eyewear to play. First thing that came to mind BS. It will suck.
The graphics won’t be great and it won’t be as great as the 3D I have tried out from SONY and Nvidia.

Well I was very surprised, the Graphics on the games were great and the depth of the image is shocking, the graphics are nice and clean considering the console doesn’t use bulky 3D glasses and uses the movement of your eyes to control the screen refresh rate to produce the 3D image is far ahead of any rival.

The only issue with the graphics it can turn into double vision sometimes where your eyes get out of sync of the graphics on the console and it can take a moment to readjust to it which is a minor issue thankfully.

The most impressive thing is the console can utilize the cameras on it to make use of the games giving more freedom.

For example the Card game, the Cameras allows you to interact with the game even more.
It truly is interactive; all your movements are picked up by the cameras and then relayed to the console giving you that extra bit. This nice feature is also on other games, for example Zelda 3D.

The Miis are back
Create those 3D avatars and truly personalize your miis, the impressive feature for this is having the ability to make your miis that bit more personal by taking a snap of your ugly mug and then having the option to use parts of those features on your miis, which is sweet.

The console still has its Retro old school feel to it, Nintendo have done well by keeping to something that works, and not gone with “If it isn’t broke still Change it” the only changes to the cosmetics on the console is the sweet thumb analogue pad which is a nice touch to the new console.

The weight of the console isn’t that much and for something that has so much crammed into it,
there isn’t any weight issue.

The console also still comes in different colours for each personality and preference, but personally I prefer old school black as I think it just has a better feel and look to it.
3D photos, who said the 3Ds was just for gamers? The console boasts two Cameras on the front which aren’t just for those sweet games; it also allows you to take full 3D images which you can share with your friends of get printed by 3D printers.

I would really recommend this Console, and personally I will also be getting the 3Ds as a gamer as someone that likes photography it will be fun to take some 3D images.
In March the console will be launched worldwide, so I would suggest pre-ordering the console.
One reason, this is Nintendo so everyone should know how Nintendo have a tendency to sell out within hours of release. So get in while you can.
